On June 12, 2025, the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival officially opened. As China's only Class A international film festival, this year's event received approximately 4,100 film submissions from 125 countries and regions, setting a new all-time record, with notable growth in entries from the Americas and Africa. During the festival, more than 420 films from 77 countries and regions will be screened across over 1,600 showings. More and more directors and producers are choosing Shanghai as the global first stop for their works. This year, world premieres and international premieres accounted for as much as 82% of the festival's screenings, and both the Golden Goblet Competition and the Documentary section achieved 100% premieres for the first time. This clearly demonstrates Shanghai's growing importance in the global film landscape. Over a hundred meet-the-filmmaker sessions and fan exchange events were held simultaneously, and the high-quality film lineup combined with an international industry atmosphere has further strengthened the foundation of Shanghai's film and television industry.
